TRAINING ROOM Baseball Without Boundaries TEAM SPOTLIGHT -13U and 15U Players take their Game to the People's Republic of China by Worldwide Baseball Prospects.com hen you think of summer baseball in the US or Canada for the 13U and 15U player, most devoted baseball families would think of events here at home nationally or even locally. Often for this age group it seems that camps and tournaments are everywhere. Camps are a great way for players to work on skills, form new relationships and build up self esteem as a person. They put a great cap on the baseball summer season for the still newly developing player. However a baseball development group out of Fresno California, Team Avenue Baseball, led by former LA Dodger player, Thomari Story-Harden President of Team Avenue Baseball and Central Valley RBI -a division of MLB Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities program, has created an experi-ence for 30, (13U and 15U) players that will undoubtedly be remembered by them for a lifetime. It was said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. How does an internation-al baseball experience with a trip to Beijing, the People’s Republic of China sound? Team Avenue Baseball has been in talks with youth baseball organizers in Beijing, China to bring over players which will make up “The Team Avenue Aces 13U and 15U International Baseball Club.” These play-ers will be put on the international stage August 1 -8, 2012 playing in the 22nd Annual Beijing International Youth Baseball Championships against teams from around the world. Story-Harden a 6’7, 270lb first baseman and local standout from El Cerrito High, starred in foot-ball and baseball before getting drafted in the 8th Round of the 1998 Amateur Draft by the LA Dodgers. He is no stranger to International play. Thomari as a player in 1997 and as a Head Coach in 2004, 2005 and 2008 headed a group of U16 players to Australia to participate in the Goodwill Series with much success. Story-Harden states, “This is a rare but impor-tant opportunity for our young developing players to represent their country on an international stage. They will learn from the experience as base-ball players and ambassadors, develop great friendships with their teammates and international competition but more importantly develop their inner strength, goodwill and courage as young people.” Both 13U and 15U International and National players from the USA, Canada and abroad will all Page 96 • Baseball The Magazine • Issue 1 2012 W have an opportunity to make up this elite and diverse roster of youth superstars with a team roster cutoff date set for May 1, 2012. “Baseball today is without boundaries and every young person deserves a chance to play, learn and grow. It is up to those guys who have had their shot at it to give back to the youth and inspire them to become great people through base-ball, says Story-Harden.” Team Avenue Baseball will be hosting a series of 2012 identification baseball camps and tournaments all year as well as evaluation sessions to assist in making final roster picks. The Team Avenue Aces 13U and 15U International Baseball Club is already sparking interest from local and national sponsors and has started receiving National coverage through KMPH news. Players and Parents who are inter-ested in this amazing opportunity will first be asked to fill in the PLAYER PROFILE on the organization website, Team Avenue Baseball.com. A 13U or 15U player representative will be able to direct parents and make arrangements to facilitate the rest of the process.
